Short Description : The Interdisciplinary Centre for European Studies (ICES) of Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) is a hub for multi- and interdisciplinary research on Europe and plays a central role in connecting scholars across disciplines and institutions. By European Studies, ICES understands the multi- and interdisciplinary investigation of historical and contemporary challenges concerning Europe. ICES is a place for research that embraces diverse understandings of Europe and is characterized by a high degree of disciplinary openness. It provides a forum for reflective engagement with the complex and multifaceted perspectives that shape Europe’s social, political, cultural, and environmental realities. ICES brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines and supports them in developing and implementing research projects on Europe-related topics. Its mission combines three core areas: fostering excellent interdisciplinary research, providing comprehensive research support services, and promoting early-career scholars through the ICES Research School. Thematically, ICES’s projects and initiatives span a broad spectrum—from social inequality, democracy, and migration to sustainability, peace and conflict resolution. Through close cooperation with its associated centres—the Centre for Irish Studies (CfIS), the Campus Nord for France and Francophonie (CaNoFF), and the Centre for Small and Regional Languages (KURS)—ICES integrates regional, linguistic, and cultural perspectives into European Studies.
