Invitation to Participate in the Event: “DUTH to the People – EMERGE Open Days” in Komotini
Democritus University of Thrace Co-shapes the Future with the Society of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace
Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), remaining true to its commitment to strengthen its social role and establish a meaningful connection with the local community, warmly invites regional stakeholders, citizens of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT), and students of the Institution to participate in the event “DUTH TO THE PEOPLE – EMERGE OPEN DAYS,” which will take place on October 29 and 30, 2026, in Komotini.
This initiative is implemented within the framework of the European University Alliance EMERGE (Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and Global Engagement), of which DUTH is a member.
Following the success of the DUTH to the People event held in Evros in 2024, DUTH is developing a permanent institution to systematically support active civic engagement—not only in identifying local needs and challenges, but also in selecting sustainable solutions with a strong local and broader impact.
The event includes:
Presentation of the results of the proposals funded during the DUTH to the People event in 2024, as well as a preparatory workshop for members of the Community Jury on October 29.
Presentation, prioritization, and evaluation of this year’s newly submitted funding proposals (which have already undergone academic review), alongside the selection of projects to be funded on October 29–30, as well as an open discussion between local authorities, institutional representatives, students, youth, and academics.
The final selection of the funded projects will be determined 40% by the evaluation of the Community Jury, giving citizens, local stakeholders, and students the direct opportunity to shape the outcome.

The event is open to the general public for attendance. At the same time, we invite representatives of institutions, citizens of EMT, and students to join the Public Committee and actively contribute to the evaluation of proposals.

What participation involves:
For Stakeholder Representatives & Citizens: Attendance at an informational meeting and project presentation event highlighting previously funded DUTH to the People projects (Thursday, October 29), followed by participation in the evaluation and selection event for the new proposals (Friday, October 30).
For DUTH Students: Attendance at a preparatory online seminar, participation in the informational meeting (October 29), and involvement in the presentation, evaluation, and selection of the new funding proposals (Friday, October 30).
